Leaving Home

There are so many reasons I believe in lifestyle and documentary photography for families. But one of the biggest reasons is the element of home.

People are not stationary; we move. We move across town. We move across the country. We grow up and move out. Our homes cannot come with us. And even if we move on to a place that is infinitely better we are still leaving behind the place you measure the kids as they grew and/or the house baby came home to.

This session highlighted all this for me. Shortly after this session was shot this family, friends of ours, loaded up 3 girls, dog, and belongings and moved across country. This session was a celebration of the life they created here in Washington. A home that had a well loved garden, enough room for sisters to play dress up, do crafts and read to their hearts content.
