In My Bag; Session Gear – Poulsbo Lifestyle Photographer

If I were to meet you for a storytelling portrait session, you might be curious about what I’m bringing with me.  So let me show you.  Here’s the meat and potatoes of what I work with.  session gear - Poulsbo lifestyle photographer1.  Nikon D700 – This is my other baby. I love this camera.  It feels good in my hands and it has the ability to shoot in even the darkest corners of my house.

2.  Heritage Herringbone hand strap – I never used the long strap that came with my camera.  In fact, more often than not it just got in the way.  So I traded it in for a hand strap which is exactly what I needed.  It’s comfortable and allows me to feel secure shooting one handed.

3.  Sigma 35mm 1.4 – I adore this lens and it is my work horse.  If I’m shooting in a home it’s on my camera most of the time and it is what’s always on my camera when it’s waiting to be picked up again.

4. Nikon 50 mm 1.4 – The 50mm 1.8 lens was the first prime lens I picked purchased.  I finally upgraded to the 1.4 about a year ago and I am so happy I did.  I love the 50mm focal length.  I certainly tend to see in a normal to slightly wide angle focal length.  Plus the bokeh produced in this lens is just beautiful.

5. Nikon 85mm 1.8 – This is my least used lens.  But I still love it.  If I’m shooting outdoors for clients this lens will find its way on to my camera.

6.  Circular Polarizing Filter – This is a gem for shooting outside.  I frequently shoot around water so having this filter cut down glare as well as add some depth and saturation to the sky is always a win.
