Last Days of Summer – Kitsap Documentary Family Photographer

This was our first true summer vacation.  The first year we went from a year of school, to a few months of summer, and back.  So it was also the first year I experienced what it’s like to have a kid at home who is dying to go back to school once the novelty of summer was worn off.

In addition, if you caught my last Here & Now post you will remember that I mentioned our cat is sick. Turns out she has cancer and we now have her on kitty chemo, which makes me sound a lot crazier than I actually am.  Turns out chemo for pets, or at least for our pet, is very different than what you would normally imagine a person going through.  It’s not a hard hitting, one-two punch, of IV administered meds attempting to totally eradicate the cancer.  Instead it’s an administration of a shockingly affordable pill purchased from a vet compounding pharmacy every 72 hours with the hope of extending and improving her quality of life.  The only real hitch is, since I’m pregnant, I cannot touch the stuff.  So my eternally good natured husband has the sole responsibility of medicating the cat.  It’s an ordeal that has certainly added to the general list of obstacles and annoyances that came part and parcel with the end of summer this year.

The images captured during this day in the life speak to that humdrum sense of personal purgatory.  That sense of simply being in between stations and waiting for things to change; waiting for school to start, waiting for for a baby, waiting to settle into a new sense of normalcy that you know is on the way but just isn’t there yet.
