P52 Week 27 – White Balance for mood – Kitsap Photographer

For my P52 exercise this week, I explored creative uses of white balance in order to set a mood for an image.  The exercise was taken out of the book “The Visual Toolbox” by David DuChemin.

This is a technique I don’t use too often, or at least not as dramatically as the examples shown in DuChemin’s book.  So I tried to really push the extremes of warm and cool this week (without going too far).  It wasn’t an easy task, especially since the human eye will adjust to a color palette.  So if one is working on creating a cooler image suddenly true colors won’t look true at all, they will look so much warmer.

You can quite easily see how the white balance effects the feel of an image.ce comparison - little boy in toy boat ridewhite balance comparison - cat in curtainsce comparison - little boy on beach
