Making the best of it – Kitsap Documentary Family Photographer

This day was a bit of shit show. It was bound to happen. After documenting a single day each month for a over two years it was only inevitable that I would end up documenting one that went sideways.

And here’s where I make a confession. This day back in March was when we decided to go to Ikea to pick up a mattress for my 4 year old son’s bed. What was he currently sleeping on, you ask? His crib mattress that had been shoved and macgyvered into the frame of a toddler bed. Don’t judge me. It was a brilliant idea when we initially moved him out of his crib shortly after potty training. Then, I just forgot. And kept forgetting until we needed the mattress for the crib again. So this trip to Ikea was not going to be put off again. It needed to happen.

Even though my husband had just gotten back into town from a work trip to Hawaii that morning. And even though we hit crazy traffic and ended up taking detour upon detour through Tacoma. And even though we knew we were going to be coming back late long after the baby hit her self destruct time of 7pm. Come hell or high water we were getting the damn mattress.

And we did. We made the best of it.
